Built in the 15th century, the bridge of La Margineda is the largest and most slender medieval bridge preserved in Andorra. It is located on the royal road that went from Sant Julià de Lòria to Andorra la Vella (it is currently located east of the Margineda traffic circle). The structure passes over the Valira River, the main river of the country. It is 33 meters long and has a single arch with a span of nine and a half meters (arch width).
Built in 1998, the Funicamp is the gateway to the richness and history of the environment and the Pyrenean landscape, and places Encamp practically at the foot of the slopes. It is the only funitel cable car in the Pyrenees. The cabins have 24 seats. In summer it is also the starting point for many hiking trails and guided 4x4 excursions, a comfortable and different way to discover high mountain scenery, hiking or try your luck with fishing. There is also the possibility of stopping at the intermediate station of Funicamp to enjoy a walk through the valley of Els Cortals, where we can photograph its peculiar rural and mountain landscape or go through a via ferrata, various routes on foot or practice climbing in the outdoor climbing wall of Els Cortals and even live a unique experience -on the route that goes from the Cubil Lake to the Pessons Lake- as it is to observe marmots.
Today it is a living example of Andorra's pre-industrial heritage. You will also discover the tools and instruments used in the production process, such as the horn or the furnace, among others. * Languages: Catalan, Spanish, French and English. * Space adapted for people with reduced mobility.
The Perfume Museum is located on the second floor of the Júlia Center in Escaldes-Engordany. It offers you the opportunity to discover and immerse yourself in the fascinating universe of aromas and their creation. The history of perfumes and their bottles is not limited to an exclusively artistic analysis, but is framed within the social context of each historical moment: thus, they not only reflect the creative currents, but also show the needs, beliefs and tastes of society. The history of fragrances and cosmetics is a true reflection of the values, trends and social changes of the population. It also features the "Path of Smells", an urban olfactory itinerary through native aromatic plants.
The Comapedrosa Natural Park has a protected area of 15.42 km2. It stands out for its imposing high mountain landscape formed by forests, lakes and waterfalls, its network of hiking trails and mountain huts allows you to make a large number of excursions and contemplate the native fauna and flora. To get to know Comapedrosa first hand, we recommend that you do not miss a visit to the interpretation center, where you will discover very interesting information about this natural space. You can also disconnect and have fun with the clue game Salva la Serenalla, where you will have to find several hidden "treasures" using a GPS (this activity takes place in the interpretive circuit of the center and is available throughout the year).
The Basilica Sanctuary of Meritxell is the most important religious temple in Andorra. But in addition to its spiritual importance, this place of worship in the Canillo parish offers other reasons for your visit, mainly from an artistic and landscape point of view. This religious complex in Andorra is a place full of symbolism for the inhabitants of the Principality. In fact, it houses the image of the Virgin of Meritxell, patron saint of the country. It is a polychrome carving reminiscent of the original Romanesque one, destroyed in the fire of 1972. In addition, the Basilica Sanctuary of Meritxell houses other carvings of Andorran saints, patrons of the rest of the country's parishes. This importance has earned the temple the title of Minor Basilica, granted by Pope Francis in 2014, thus becoming the only place of worship with this distinction in the Principality. Since then, Meritxell has been part of the so-called Marian Route, which runs through four other important sanctuaries in Spain and France: El Pilar, Montserrat, Torreciudad and Lourdes. For this reason, this temple has also become a pole of attraction for visitors moved by faith and spirituality.
It is the parish church of Ordino, initially built in medieval times and remodeled in the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries. Inside it preserves a Romanesque carving from the late eleventh and early twelfth century of the Virgin of Remedy, polychrome wood, which with its 44 cm is the smallest of the Principality. The "Creu Grossa" is a little below the original site, near the royal road between Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany. It is a gothic cross from the late 16th or early 17th century. On one side you can admire a representation of Christ nailed to the cross and on the other a maternity.
Andorra la Vella, located more than 1000 meters above sea level and surrounded by mountains, is the capital and one of the most essential places to see in Andorra. This city has a beautiful historic center full of stone buildings in which stands out the Casa de la Vall, from the late sixteenth century and was the seat of the General Council, one of the oldest parliaments in Europe. Other of the oldest buildings in the center are the 12th century Church of San Esteve, Casa Guillermó and Casa Felipó. Other interesting less ancient places are the Plaça del Poble with the sculpture "Homage to the Immigrant", the sculpture La Noblesse du Temps by Dalí, the Paris Bridge and the Meritxell Avenue, the most commercial street of the city with a multitude of stores that will take you to the neighboring town of Escaldes-Engordany. In case you like shopping, if you have not seen enough stores in this street, you can go to one of its shopping centers such as Pyrenees or Illa Carlemany.
